KANGAR, Aug 15 — Perlis deputy police chief SAC Zaihairul Idrus has been appointed as acting state police chief, effective yesterday.

He succeeds Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim, who will assume his new role as deputy director (Movement/Operations) at Bukit Aman’s Department of Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA) after leading the Perlis police contingent for two years and eight months.

The handover ceremony was witnessed by Bukit Aman KDNKA director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri and held at the Perlis contingent police headquarters (IPK) here yesterday.

Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Zaihairul said he would continue the efforts, including welfare initiatives, implemented by Muhammad during his tenure as the state police chief.

In addition, Zaihairul said he would strengthen close cooperation with Bukit Aman in efforts to address any security issues in the state, which borders Thailand.

“Perlis’ position as a state bordering a neighbouring country requires continued cooperation between the Perlis contingent and Bukit Aman to strengthen security in border areas.

“I believe that with close cooperation with Bukit Aman, the crime rate in the Perlis police contingent will decline even more significantly,” he said. — Bernama
