KANGAR - The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, said zakat (tithe) management and the development of asnaf (eligible zakat recipients) now require a more innovative and integrated approach.
His Royal Highness said high-quality research would help stakeholders better understand the real challenges faced by the asnaf, enabling them to formulate policies, programmes and interventions that can sustainably improve their quality of life.
In this regard, he said the Faizuddin Centre of Educational Excellence (FCoEE)-Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) Asnaf Research Centre is a highly significant initiative in strengthening the research ecosystem related to asnaf development.
"The centre will not only serve as a hub for data collection and knowledge generation, but also as a strategic platform for developing more effective, high-impact and evidence-based solutions to empower the asnaf community," he said.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra said this when officiating at the pre-launch of the FCoEE-MAIPs Asnaf Research Centre, the launch of Volumes 1, 2 and 3 of the International Conference on Holistic Opportunities for Poverty Empowerment (ICOHOPE) as well as Buku Memahami Aspirasi Pendidikan Tinggi Anak-Anak Asnaf, and the presentation of the Phase 3 FCoEE research grants here today.
Also in attendance was the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.
Among those present were FCoEE executive chairman Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Kamarudin Hussin and MAIPs chief executive officer Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor.
Meanwhile, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra said research grants are not merely a form of financial assistance, but a strategic investment in the advancement of knowledge and innovation.
He expressed hope that every grant awarded would be put to the best possible use to produce high-impact research, strengthen collaboration among institutions and contribute to the formulation of more effective policies for the well-being of the ummah.
