PERLIS Ruler, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, attended a special Al-Istisqa’ prayer (prayers for rain) at the ceremonial square of Istana Arau earlier this morning, as the state grapples with prolonged hot and dry weather.
The prayers, which began at 8 am, drew close to 1,000 participants, including state leaders and members of the public.
The gathering was held to seek divine mercy in the form of rainfall, following a period of intense heat and drought currently affecting the state.
Also present were the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, and the second heir to the Perlis throne, Syed Sirajuddin Areeb Putra Al-Haj Jamalullail.
The session was led by Ahmad Sirajuddin Abdul Satar, Deputy Director of the Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department, who also delivered a sermon after the prayers.
In a statement, the Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Istiadat Melayu Perlis announced that Al-Istisqa’ supplications will also be recited at mosques across Perlis during Friday sermons, based on sermon texts prepared by the State Mufti Department.
The initiative will commence on March 27, 2026, and continue for a period to be determined by the authorities.
The council also called on Muslims in the state to increase their prayers, reflect on their actions, and seek forgiveness, in hopes that Perlis will be blessed with rainfall and spared from hardship.
At the same time, the public has been encouraged to continue praying for rain as the state faces an extended dry spell and ongoing water shortages.
