Perlis to pay instant cash incentives to state’s Sukma medal winners

KANGAR – Perlis athletes who win medals at the 2022 Malaysia Games (Sukma 2022) in Kuala Lumpur will be paid cash incentives immediately after the prize presentation.

State Youth and Sports exco Hamizan Hassan said gold medal winners will receive RM1,000 cash, silver medal winners will get RM750 while bronze medal winners are set to take home RM500.

“We will hand out the cash immediately to those who win medals. Once they come down from the podium after the prize presentation, the cash incentives will be given,” he told reporters after handing an honorarium for team management expenses at the Perlis contingent’s flag-handing ceremony, here today.

He said Perlis has set a target of winning 12 gold, five silver and 19 bronze medals in Sukma 2022, which is a realistic target based on the achievement of the contingent at the previous editions in 2014 and 2018, held in Perlis and Perak respectively.

Hamizan, who is also the chef-de-mission for Perlis, said the state’s contingent would be made up of 277 athletes and 74 officials.

He said Perlis athletes will be taking part in 25 of the 31 sports contested in the Games scheduled from September 16 to 24, including weightlifting, badminton, cycling, lawn bowls, hockey, karate and archery. – Bernama, September 3, 2022
