Petrol, ammonium nitrate smuggling attempt foiled

SEMPORNA: The Marine Police Force foiled an attempt by two boats to smuggle out petrol and ammonium nitrate via Pulau Boheyan, here, on Saturday.

Sabah Region Four Marine Commander, ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said, at about 12.35am, the Marine team spotted a boat in suspicious condition off Pulau Boheyan.

The boat attempted to flee but managed to be intercepted by the Marine.

“The team also found 40 empty gallons believed used in petrol smuggling activities to the neighboring country,” he said.

According to Mohd Nazri, both suspects as well as the seizures which estimated worth RM38,000 were taken to the Marine Operation base for further action.

Mohd Nazri said the case would be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 31(2) of Police Act for not complying with the curfew order.

In separate operation, the Marine team seized a total of 40 sacks containing ammonium nitrate left inside a boat at the Pulau Boheyan beach at about 5.45am.

He said, the seizures which estimated worth RM26,000 were believed to be smuggled out to the neighboring country.
