SEMPORNA: Marine police seized a boat laden with petrol, believed to be smuggled out of the country, off Tanjung Pantau-Pantau waters, Monday.

A team on “Ops Taring Gelora” duty spotted a suspicious boat.

“When they tried to stop the boat, its skipper sped off towards a shallow area and escaped by jumping into the waters.

“On inspection, 59 jerry cans containing 25 litres of petrol each were found on the boat,” said Sabah Region Four Marine Police Commander ACP Ahmad Ariffin.

“All the seized items, worth a total of RM33,626 including the boat and two engines, will be handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) for further action,” he added.
