NATIONAL oil giant Petronas has played a significant role in human capital development programmes in Sarawak, a senior Sarawak leader acknowledged.
Federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexandar Nanta Linggi, who is also Gabungan Parti Sarawak ruling state coalition secretary-general, said the national oil entity has helped in many useful human development programmes in Sarawak.
"The Prime Minister recently gave details in the Dewan Rakyat session of how Petronas had significantly contributed to national revenue from the oil and gas projects in Sarawak and how Petronas had also contributed towards the development of Sarawak.
"We acknowledge that Petronas had contributed more than RM600 million towards human capital development in Sarawak over the past 10 years.
"We in Sarawak hope that the Madani Government and Petronas will continue to enhance the human capital progress in Sarawak," Nanta said in his social media updates with his constituents.
Nanta is the Member of Parliament for Kapit in central Sarawak.
On Dec 26 last year, it was reported that Petronas will also be providing financial assistance to rural clinics in Sarawak to purchase much-needed health equipment as part of its efforts to help remote villagers in the state.
Meanwhile, Petronas general manager for Sarawak, Norazibah Mohd Rabu said Petronas management has since liaised with the Sarawak health authorities on the community outreach project.
Speaking when visiting Klinik Sebauh in Sebauh district in northern Sarawak, she said Petronas has a list of clinics ready.
"In the list, there are 26 rural clinics in Sarawak that have been identified as needing important health and medical equipment needed for daily use of patients.
"Petronas is assisting to six clinics already.
"These are Klinik Daro, Klinik Sebangan, Klinik Tanjung Manis, Klinik Machan, Klinik Nanga Tau and Klinik Sebauh.
"We have set aside RM 1.3 million for purchasing the equipment," she said. – February 20, 2025
