Works Minister acknowledges Petronas’ contribution of RM600 mil to human capital development in Sarawak

NATIONAL oil giant Petronas has played significant role in human capital development programmes in Sarawak, a senior Sarawak leader acknowleged.

Federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexandar Nanta Linggi, who is also Gabungan Parti Sarawak ruling state coalition secretary-general said the national oil entity has helped in many positive human development programmes in Sarawak.

"The Prime Minister has recently gave details in the Dewan Rakyat session of how Petronas had significantly contributed to national revenue from the oil and gas projects in Sarawak and how Petronas had also contributed towards the development of Sarawak.

"We acknowledge that Petronas had contributed more than RM600 mil towards human capital development in Sarawak too over the past 10 years.

"We in Sarawak hope that the Madani Government and Petronas will continue to enhance the human capital progress in Sarawak," he said in his social media updates with his constituents.

Nanta is the Member of Parliament for Kapit constituency in central Sarawak.

On Dec 26 last year, it was reported that Petronas will also be providing financial assistance to rural clinics in Sarawak to purchase much-needed health equipment as part of its effort to help the remote villagers in this vast state.

The management of Petronas have liaised with the Sarawak health authorities on this conmunity outreach project, said Petronas general manager for Sarawak, Norazibah Mohd Rabu.

Speaking when visiting Klinik Sebauh in Sebauh district in northern Sarawak with the Association of Wife of Sarawak ministers and deputy ministers, she said Petronas have a list of clinics ready.

"In the list, there are 26 rural clinics in Sarawak that have been identified as needing important health and medical equipments needed for daily use of patients.

"We Petronas are giving to six clinics already.

"These six government clinics are Klinik Daro, Klinik Sebangan, Klinik Tanjung Manis, Klinik Machan, Klinik Nanga Tau and Klinik Sebauh.

"We have set aside RM 1.3 mil for buying these clinic aids," she said.

This move to help purchase important clinic items for the rural population will be an ongoing effort by Petronas, she said.

The provision of such clinical aid reflects the desire of Petronas to help promote good health among Sarawakians living in rural districts, she said.

Petronas is also helping rural folks in other social fronts as part of its corporate social responsibilities outreach, she added. – February 20, 2025
