Peugeot has showcased its new E-208 GTi in production-ready form for the first time.
Revealed ahead of its public debut at this week’s Le Mans 24 Hours, the E-208 GTi is a modern interpretation of the classic hot hatch with several features included in its design that help it to offer a more involving driving experience.
It has a broader track compared to the standard E-208, for instance, while there are chunky front and rear diffusers to improve aerodynamic efficiency. The rear diffuser also incorporates a reference to motorsport in the form of a central fog light.
Powering the E-208 GTi is a 276 hp electric motor, which brings a claimed 0-100 km/h time of under 6 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h, alongside a range of up to 350 km. Peugeot says that a full charge should be completed in under five hours when the car is connected to a standard home charger, too.
As well as a 56 mm and 27 mm increase in track width at the front and rear of the car respectively, the GTi also benefits from upgraded springs and shocks, alongside Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.
The new Peugeot E-208 GTi is expected to go on sale later this year and though no pricing has been formally announced, it’s expected to be slightly more than what a top-spec E-208 currently costs.
