The two Philippine athletes at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy ended their run on Wednesday (Philippine time), with alpine skier Tallulah Proulx finishing 50th in her women’s slalom run.
Proulx, the country’s youngest Winter Olympian at age 17, clocked 2:08.48 in the women’s slalom event. American Mikaela Shiffrin clinched the gold medal with the time of 1:39.10.
Proulx finished 52nd in the giant slalom, clocking at 2:41.62 in two runs. This event was won by hometown star Federica Brignone, who clocked at 2:13.50.
Last Saturday, alpine skier Francis Ceccarelli managed to finish 54th in the men’s giant slalom event, where he clocked 2:48.83, and placed 69th out of the 81 men who completed both runs.
The men’s giant slalom saw Brazil’s Lucas Pinheiro Braathen win the gold medal, clocking at 2:25:00, which was the first Winter Olympic gold medal for a tropical nation and for South America.
However, because of heavy snowfall at his venue, Ceccarelli, as well as Pinheiro Braathen, crashed out of the slalom event, which was won by Switzerland’s Loïc Meillard, who clocked at 1:53.61.
Meillard had earlier lost to Pinheiro Braathen for the giant slalom gold, denying the Swiss team a sweep in the men’s events.
The closing ceremony for Olympic Winter Games is set to take place on Sunday (Monday in Manila) at the Verona Arena, where the Olympic flag is set to be handed over to France, the host country of the 2030 Winter Olympics. ARIC JOHN SY CUA
