MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Embassy in London expressed concern over portrayals of Filipinos in the United Kingdom that it said failed to reflect the character and contributions of the Filipino community.
This comes after a Filipina, in an interview with UK media, described life in England as “the best,” drawing criticisms online.
In the video, the woman compared her life in England because her medical expenses were free, contrasting her experience in the Philippines, where she spent P200,000 after collapsing.
Her statement has since received criticisms questioning why British taxpayers should pay for her healthcare.
“The Embassy notes with concern recent portrayals of the Filipino diaspora in the United Kingdom that do not accurately reflect its character and contributions,” the statement reads.
The embassy said anti-immigrant sentiments were not representative of British society.
