
The Philippine flag was raised on Thursday at the athletes’ village in Nagoya, Japan, in preparation for Saturday's opening ceremony of the 20th Asian Games.
Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham Tolentino attended the flag raising ceremony.
Tolentino also took part in a special gift exchange with Nagoya City Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa, which the POC described as the country’s “deep gratitude for the host city's warm hospitality and solidifying the strong ties” between the Philippines and Japan.
Tolentino arrived in Japan on Wednesday to speak with Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas officials, following a 9th place finish by the Philippine men's basketball team that won the gold medal in the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou.The Philippines will field 440 athletes across 39 sports in the 20th Asian Games.
Women’s boxer and Paris Olympic bronze medalist Aira Villegas and weightlifting prospect Albert Delos Santos are the flag brearers in the opening ceremony on Saturday.
