Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders are set to meet this evening to discuss the latest political developments, including questions surrounding Barisan Nasional’s (BN) continued position in the unity government.
The PH presidential council meeting, chaired by PH chairman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is scheduled for 5.30 pm at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya.
The meeting is expected to take up Zahid’s remarks at the Umno general assembly last week, where the BN chairman and Umno president challenged those calling for the coalition to leave the unity government.
Zahid said those who wanted BN to withdraw should either seek the dissolution of Parliament to make way for the 16th general election or table a motion of no confidence against the government in the Dewan Rakyat.
His remarks have since prompted further discussion over BN’s role in the administration and the political direction of the unity government.
The meeting was proposed by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke on Monday, when he called on Anwar to convene the PH presidential council as soon as possible.
Loke said the meeting should be held after Anwar returned from his overseas official engagements to discuss recent political developments and statements which, he said, could affect political certainty and stability.
