PH men's baseball team holds training camp in Japan for Asian Games

MANILA, Philippines — Ramping up preparations for the Asian Games, the Philippine men's baseball team is holding a 12-day training camp in Japan where the Asiad will also take place next month.

Looking to acclimate to the playing conditions in Japan, the Filipino batters began the camp on August 1 and will end on August 12 in Nagoya.

The national team has already held training sessions at the Chino City Athletic Park, where it worked on hitting, pitching, defense, and game execution.

Led by head coach Lando Binarao, the Filipinos played scrimmages against the Tokai Gakuen University and Doho University, defeating the former and losing to the latter.

A 4-time Southeast Asian Games champ, the Philippines is in Pool A of the Asian Games men's baseball alongside Palestine, China, and Japan.

Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and China are in Pool B.

The Filipinos will open their campaign against Palestine on September 21 followed by matches against China and Japan on the succeeding days.

The top two teams in each pool will advance to the next phase.
