IPOH – Pakatan Harapan (PH) must continue to be given the mandate to govern the country to sustain efforts to combat corruption and prevent those who misused public funds from returning to power, DAP Perak chairman Nga Kor Ming said.
Nga claimed the Madani government had seized and recovered RM15.5 billion through strict enforcement actions involving corruption, financial leakages, misappropriation and illegal syndicate activities.
He said the recovered funds had been returned for the benefit of Malaysians, demonstrating the government's commitment to ensuring that asset recovery did not become a source of personal gain for certain individuals.
“During our time in government, we managed to seize and return RM15.5 billion stolen, taken and plundered by groups of looters to the Malaysian people.
“When the Madani government recovers this money, we return it to the people. No government in Malaysia or the region has ever done anything like this,” he said.
Nga was speaking at the 24th DAP Perak Convention at the Ipoh Convention Centre here on Sunday. Also present was DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.
Nga, who is also the Housing and Local Government Minister, said efforts to pursue individuals allegedly involved in the misappropriation of public funds would continue, including cases involving Tabung Haji, Felda and UiTM Holdings.
He said the efforts were in line with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decree that those responsible for financial misappropriation be brought to justice.
The Teluk Intan MP also expressed confidence that the public would renew PH's mandate at the 16th General Election (GE16), citing the reforms introduced by the government.
He also dismissed attempts by certain parties to build a so-called “blue wave”, saying the political movement would fail to secure public support.
“I am confident that the people will once again give their mandate to Pakatan Harapan. They previously talked about a blue wave, but what eventually happened was that those groups descended into chaos.
“Those who plundered Tabung Haji were not DAP. Those who plundered Felda were not DAP. Those who plundered UiTM Holdings were not DAP. They were all part of the so-called blue and green looting groups. Is that right?
“That is why we must build a red wave, a Harapan wave. Starting from historic Melaka, we will move towards Putrajaya,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nga voiced support for University of Malaya (UM) students who protested against efforts to raise donations for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said the students' actions reflected a younger generation that rejected corruption and opposed attempts to normalise such practices in society.
Nga also welcomed the university's decision not to take disciplinary action against the students.
He said society should not glorify individuals associated with corruption, as doing so could send the wrong message to future generations.
“Do not allow these people to hold power in our country. That is why Pakatan Harapan must win. Pakatan Harapan, together with Anwar, must win to save this country from these groups of looters.
“This is our homeland. We cannot simply walk away and leave it behind,” he said.
Nga urged all DAP leaders and members, including elected representatives and village heads, to conduct grassroots outreach every week to strengthen the party's preparations for GE16.
