PH to join 2027 horticulture expo in Japan

THE Philippines will join Green X Expo 2027 in Yokohama, Japan to expand horticultural exports, attract investment and showcase climate-resilient agriculture, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said Sunday.

Announced at the recent Pagsibol 2026: Philippine Horticulture and Urban Agriculture Summit held at Manila Prince Hotel, the country’s participation will center on a pavilion themed “Bukás: Gardens of the Bayanihan Spirit.”

“We want to show our horticultural heritage, biodiversity, and green innovations,” Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said.

The pavilion will feature waling-waling and other Philippine orchids, premium tropical fruits and other high-value products with potential for Japanese and international markets.

Garden designs will draw inspiration from the Banaue Rice Terraces and Chocolate Hills, alongside elements of the Pahiyas, Panagbenga and Dinagyang festivals.

Exhibits will also highlight regenerative farming and climate-resilient agriculture.

The DA said product exhibitions, business matching, and an outbound business mission will connect farmers, growers, agricultural entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium enterprises with international buyers, investors and distributors.

DA Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service Director Junibert de Sagun said the Philippines has a strong presence in fruit exports but remains underrepresented in ornamental horticulture.

“Through our participation in Green X Expo 2027, we want to highlight the significant potential for growth and diversification in this sector,” he said.

The expo, themed “Scenery of the Future for Happiness,” will run from March 19 to Sept. 26, 2027.
