Jiu-jitsu gave the Philippines its first two medals, including a gold, at the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China on Thursday.
Alexandria Luz Enriquez delivered the gold in the women's 63-kilogram ne-waza division after defeating South Korea's Lee Yeonni, 5-0.
It is the country's sixth gold medal in Asian Beach Games history as Enriquez joins the short list that includes Asian Games champions Annie Ramirez and Meggie Ochoa.
The Philippine delegation’s chef de mission, Don Caringal was at the venue to witness Enriquez's golden performance.
"Alexandria showed the heart of a true Filipino warrior today. To win gold here in Sanya, against the best in the continent, sets a high standard for our hosting in 2028. This is a proud moment for the entire nation," he said.
Earlier, Kaila Napolis gave the Philippines a bronze medal in the women's 52 kg event, beating Kazakhstan's Zhibek Kulumbetova in their bronze match.
