THE Philippine renewable energy (RE) sector is expected to register significant growth, driven by government initiatives and global energy shocks.
According to Informa Markets, it is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.06 percent between 2026 and 2034, reaching approximately $41.87 billion by 2034.
This growth will be largely driven by the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program, which aims to add 25 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2035.
The Middle East conflict also demonstrated the vulnerability of the Philippines to global energy shocks.
“The energy sector in Asia faces unprecedented challenges such as rising oil prices, increasing electricity costs and the global energy crisis. The Philippines is no exception,” said Rungphech Chitanuwat, country general manager of Informa Markets Philippines.
Meanwhile, a report published by Bain & Company and Standard Chartered showed that South East Asia’s green economy is estimated at $290 billion today and is on track to reach $430 billion by 2030, reflecting a growth of 8 percent to 9 percent annually.
The report also showed that 50 percent of green investments that went into Southeast Asia were for power and grid projects, signifying the region’s shift to RE.
With the growth potential of the country’s RE sector, Informa Markets Philippines sees the holding of this year’s PhilEnergy Expo from June 24 to 26 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City as very timely.
“I see that PhilEnergy 2026 is more important than ever as it provides a platform for stakeholders to come together, exchange ideas and explore innovative solutions that will shape the future of energy in the Philippines,” Chitanuwat said.
She added that as the Philippines confronts national issues such as rising oil prices, increasing electricity costs and the ongoing global energy crisis, the PhilEnergy Expo aims to inspire discussions, foster actionable solutions and strengthen collaboration among stakeholders.
The event underscores the critical role of RE in addressing these challenges and enhancing the Philippines’ energy system, which remains heavily reliant on imported fossil fuels.
Among the highlights of the expo is the BiGSHOW at the Center Stage, organized by the Developers of Renewable Energy for Advancement Inc., which will bring together leaders from six major renewable energy sectors to share cutting-edge insights, innovations and strategic directions shaping the future of sustainable energy in the Philippines.
