Philippines prepares for Green Expo 2027 in Japan

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. created an inter-agency committee to facilitate preparations for the participation of the Philippines in the Green Expo 2027 in Japan, Malacañang said Saturday.

The President, through Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, issued Administrative Order (AO) 41 on Feb. 4, constituting a Philippine Organizing Committee for the country’s involvement in the international event.

Under AO 41, Marcos tasked the heads of the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Tourism as the chairman and vice chairman of the Philippine Organizing Committee, respectively.

Members include the heads of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions.

The Green Expo 2027 is an international horticultural exposition recognized by the Bureau International des Expositions and the International Association of Horticultural Producers.

It will be held in Yokohama, Japan from March to September 2027 with the theme “Scenery of the Future for Happiness.”

Malacañang said the Green Expo 2027 would provide opportunities to participating countries to promote their rich biodiversity, sustainable agricultural practices, innovation in high-value crops, agri-fishery products, green technologies, eco-tourism initiatives, and cultural heritage.

Marcos said the country’s participation in the Green Expo aligned with the thrusts and commitments of the administration under the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, particularly on the transformation of the agricultural and production sector toward sustainability and competitiveness, advancement of science and technology. and innovation for sustainable development.

The chairman, vice chairman, and members of the committe e may designate their respective alternates, with ranks not lower than Assistant Secretary or its equivalent, to decide for or on their behalf.

As may be necessary, the POC may create sub-committees and invite representatives from relevant government agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and the academe to provide technical advice or support.

Marcos directed all concerned government agencies and encouraged all local government units and the private sector to render full support to and cooperation with the POC to ensure the successful participation of the Philippines in the international event.
