TAWAU: Police have arrested a 32-year-old physiotherapist suspected of threatening against a female co-worker at their workplace, a physiotherapy centre along Jalan Kabota here, in an incident reported to have occurred last month.
Tawau acting district police chief Supt Wilynton Enchana Watt said the arrest was made after police received a report from a 20-year-old woman who claimed she had been threatened by the suspect following a misunderstanding related to their workplace affairs.
“Following the report, a team from the Tawau District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) traced the suspect and successfully arrested him by the roadside at the Leeka Industrial Park area to assist in the investigation,” he said here on Monday.
Based on the complainant’s statement, Wilynton said the suspect allegedly threatened to slap the victim and also threatened to hit her, resulting in both of them being called in for a discussion at their employer’s office.
However, he said the suspect was allegedly dissatisfied with the complainant’s response and was reported to have expressed his intention to assault her, prompting the victim to lodge a police report out of concern for her safety.
“Checks on the suspect’s background found that he had no previous criminal record. His statement, as well as those of witnesses to the incident, have also been recorded,” he said.
Wilynton said police have opened an investigation paper under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, while investigations are ongoing.
He also advised the public not to take matters into their own hands when faced with disputes or threats, but instead lodge a report with the authorities so that appropriate action can be taken in accordance with the law.
