Kota Kinabalu: The Society for Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu ( SPArKS ) will be hosting a Piano & Flute Recital dubbed Romantic Impressions on March 3 at the State Library, Tanjung Aru, featuring flute master, Kenneth Chia and pianist Dr Joanne Chang.
The show, suitable also for children aged 10 and above, will start at 8pm.
Kenneth is a professional flute artist lecturer born in Flushing, Queens, New York.
He now resides in Kota Kinabalu.
He holds a Master in Music degree in Flute Performance from Indiana University.
An alumni of the Children’s Orchestra Society of New York, he was later appointed as a performing teacher and assistant conductor at the society from 1999 to 2007.
He has also served as a flute teacher and guest conductor for the Chinese Youth Corp of New York Youth Orchestra and a regular freelance musician at various prestigious halls, including the Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall , in addition to performances with the Manhattan Symphonie.
Malaysian Pianist Joanne Chang who holds a doctorate in piano Performance and Literature from Indiana University, with minors in Music Theory and Arts Administration, has performed internationally and featured on distinguished platforms including the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series (Chicago), WOXR’s Young Artist Showcase (New York), AXIOM Ensemble (New York) , WFMT’s Fiesta Latin America (Chicago), BFM’s Front Row Podcast ( Kuala Lumpur ) International Menuhin Music Academy (Switzerland), Indiana University’s Latin American Music Center ( Bloomington), Music Academy of the West (Santa Barbara), and NYO- China ( Beijing).
