PKR Federal Territories proposes early GE candidate line-up to build voter trust

PKR Federal Territories has proposed that all KEADILAN branch chiefs be named as candidates for the next general election, allowing them to begin engaging with voters well ahead of polling day and giving the party time to assess their performance.

Setiawangsa branch chief Datuk Afdlin Shauki said the approach would allow the party to monitor each prospective candidate over the year leading up to the election and replace those who failed to deliver.

"If they do not perform over this period of more than a year, replace them. If they cannot do the work, replace them.

"But name them as candidates first so that they can do the work, gain the trust of the people and perhaps receive support from those who want to help," he said while debating the presidential policy address at the 2026 PKR National Congress at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) here today.

Afdlin said the proposal was among several requests and motions put forward to ensure potential candidates had sufficient time to establish themselves among voters and demonstrate their capabilities before the general election.

He said early selection would also give candidates greater opportunity to understand issues affecting their respective constituencies and build stronger links with local communities.

Afdlin also called on the party leadership to appoint coordinators for all constituencies in the Federal Territories where such positions remained vacant, saying political groundwork should begin as soon as possible.

"For the Federal Territories, please appoint coordinators for all areas that do not yet have one because the work must begin as soon as possible.

"For all those without coordinators, please... the party leadership should consider appointing coordinators for us," he said. - August 15, 2026
