PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) must adopt strong leadership and a realistic strategy to bolster its electoral machinery and improve its performance in future general elections (GE), said the party’s vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
Speaking during the ‘Jelajah Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi Dalam Ujian Kuasa (HIRUK)’ programme for the Kelantan and Terengganu zone, Nik Nazmi underscored the importance of practical planning and effective leadership.
“We need the best individuals to reinforce our election efforts. God willing, if we get the formula right this time, we can move to the next level,” said Nik Nazmi, who also serves as Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability.
At the event held at the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) complex in Tanjong Chat, he said, while some quarters have floated ambitious targets of securing 80 to 90 parliamentary seats, Nik Nazmi cautioned that the party should be measured in its expectations, pointing out that PKR currently holds only 30 seats, with its all-time best performance being 47.
“We need to be realistic. From where we are now, what’s our next target? What’s achievable, and what strategy will take us there? I believe, with the right leadership combination, we can chart that path,” he said.
Nik Nazmi also highlighted Kelantan as a crucial battleground that must contribute to the coalition’s national aspirations.
“If we want to go beyond 50 seats, Kelantan must contribute to PKR and Pakatan Harapan. The time is right — the awareness is there, and the momentum is building,” he said, urging greater attention to efforts in the East Coast state. - May 17, 2025
