Sungai Petani MP Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the former health minister must undergo the entry process set by the party.
"Actually, I don't want to make such speculations towards Khairy.
"To me, PKR is always open towards it, but there are still processes to follow," he said to Sinar on Tuesday.
Khairy was among those sacked during the Umno cleanse on Friday along with Tanjong Karang Umno Division chief and former Selangor Umno chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar.
The sacking was done due to claims of party sabotage in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Taufiq said it must be stressed that PKR is among the parties in the unity government.
"We must take care of the sentiments or maintain the sensitivity of component parties within the unity government.
"I will leave it to the discretion of the president, vice president and senior leadership to decide," he explained.
He refused to comment on whether or not he agreed to the former Umno youth chief joining PKR.
"I leave it to the leadership to decide," he said.
