Kota Kinabalu: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) Sabah has expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and damage caused by the recent floods and landslides across several districts in the state.

Its chief, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, together with the party’s State Leadership Council (MPN), extended condolences to affected families and prayed for them to be given strength to endure the hardship.

Mustapha also recorded appreciation to all frontliners and volunteers who have been working tirelessly in search and rescue, evacuation and relief operations.

Among them are personnel from the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), the Civil Defence Force, police, firemen, Social Welfare Department, healthcare workers and community groups.

He welcomed the Prime Minister’s swift move to announce an immediate additional allocation of RM10 million through Nadma to support Sabah flood victims.

This comes on top of about RM11 million that was already channelled through the State Government for urgent repairs of basic facilities and direct assistance to victims.

Mustapha said the distribution of funds must be carried out transparently, promptly and according to actual needs on the ground to ensure victims get timely help.

He said Keadilan Sabah divisions statewide had already been directed to mobilise aid within their capabilities, while working closely with local authorities to avoid overlaps and ensure assistance reaches the most urgent cases.

“Humanity and empathy must remain our priority so that Sabah and its people can recover swiftly. At times like this, we must put aside political differences and stand together,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
