PUTRAJAYA - PKR’s annual congress this month will serve as a platform for the party to reassess its internal strength and draw lessons from the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state election results, its Information chief Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.

Fahmi said delegates were expected to discuss a range of improvements, including strengthening the party machinery, candidate preparation, leadership responsibilities and government policies.

"The annual congress is, first and foremost, held to fulfil the Registrar of Societies’ (ROS) requirements in accordance with the party constitution.

"Secondly, issues raised by delegates, particularly from Johor and Negeri Sembilan, will focus on self-assessment and drawing lessons from the recently concluded state elections,” he told a weekly press conference today.

Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said the congress, slated for Aug 16, would also provide an opportunity to review the party’s internal operations, including its election machinery, task distribution, candidate preparation and government policies that may be raised by delegates.

He said the exercise was essential to enable PKR to strengthen the party and better prepare for future challenges. - BERNAMA
