PKR to hold informal discussions on Rafizi’s party position

PKR will hold informal discussions on the role and position that its former Deputy President, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, can play after losing the party election last week.

Its Vice President Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said it will only involve certain leaders among the party's top leadership.

The discussion, he said, will be held as soon as President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim informs him and will be finalised in the upcoming PKR Central Leadership Council (MPP) meeting.

"It is not an official meeting but rather a discussion involving selected leaders, especially at the highest level of PKR.

"We will have discussions, but it will definitely be finalised in the full MPP meeting later.

"We will also discuss other matters, including the challenges facing the Sabah State Election (PRN) and strengthening support for Anwar as head of the unity government," he told a press conference here, today.

It was earlier reported that Anwar had called the new PKR leadership to meet and conduct a 'post-mortem' on last week's election and decide on the appointment of party positions.

Among the agenda of the meeting was said to be discussions on the appointment of a position for Rafizi, who is also the Minister of Economy.

Asked about Rafizi's readiness to be appointed to any position in PKR, Amirudin said that his party has not discussed the matter with the Pandan MP.

"I have not met Rafizi yet, we have not discussed it and perhaps this question can be posed to him. He (Rafizi) has also uploaded posts (on social media) before.

"However, we (will) discuss many things other than positions,” he said.

Amirudin also hit out at Perikatan Nasional (PN) for claiming that there was nepotism in the PKR leadership when Nurul Izzah Anwar was elected as the party's new Deputy President.

"This is the impression given, which I will certainly repeat Anwar's statement that Nurul Izzah was not placed there (the Deputy President position) but was instead chosen by delegates. Delegates can (remove) her (Nurul Izah) if they feel she is unsuitable,” he said. – May 27, 2025
