PKR’s Danish Hairudin accuses Akmal Saleh of shifting goalposts on Tabung Haji RCI findings
PETALING JAYA: PKR Youth (AMK) information bureau chief Danish Hairudin has responded to comments by Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh over the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Lembaga Tabung Haji, saying the report should be considered on its findings rather than political interpretations.
In a statement today, Danish said Akmal had previously called for the RCI report to be made public, and questioned whether the response to the findings had changed following its release and subsequent enforcement action.
“Must everyone follow Akmal and Umno’s script until we arrive at the answer Umno wants?” he asked.
Danish also pointed out that the RCI was established before the current administration led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and said disagreements with its findings should be addressed through the appropriate institutions.
“Umno has its own MPs. Umno is also part of the unity government. If certain parts of the RCI report are seen as incomplete, bring it to Parliament. Debate it. Question it. Demand answers,” he said.
He added that anyone with additional information or evidence should provide it to the relevant authorities for assessment, regardless of the individuals or organisations potentially involved.
Danish said issues highlighted in the RCI report, including concerns relating to governance, accounting practices and investment performance, should also receive appropriate attention.
He further urged Akmal to apply consistently his stated position that disclosure should be comprehensive, including when information or findings may be politically uncomfortable.
Danish also referred to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) controversy, drawing a comparison with what he described as debates over how political attention was directed towards various aspects of the issue.
He said the comparison was intended to emphasise the importance of keeping attention on the substantive findings and ensuring that public discussion remained evidence-based.
Danish reiterated that Tabung Haji should be viewed as a public institution serving its depositors rather than as an organisation belonging to any political party.
He called on political leaders from all sides to allow the RCI findings to be examined objectively and to avoid interpreting the report solely through a partisan lens.
“If we genuinely want the truth, then accept the truth in full.
“Don’t go looking for an RCI report until you find the answer you like,” he said.
The remarks represent Danish’s response to the ongoing political discussion surrounding the RCI report. Any allegations or interpretations referred to in his statement remain matters for the relevant authorities and institutions to assess.
