KUALA LUMPUR – City dwellers and commuters should brace for major road closures this weekend, as the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) 2025 and the final stage of the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) converge on the capital.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said about 40,000 runners, including 3,300 international participants, are expected to take part in the marathon scheduled for October 4 and 5, with closures taking place in phases across the city centre.

On Saturday, the 5km and 10km runs will begin at 5.30am, with roads shut from 5am until 10am.

Among the affected routes are Jalan Raja at Dataran Merdeka, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Ampang towards the city centre, Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Kuching towards Bulatan Dato Onn.

On Sunday, the 21km and 42km races will start from 3.30am, with closures in stages from 3am to 10am.

Key roads to be closed include Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ampang, as well as stretches of the AKLEH and DUKE highways.

Adding to the traffic disruption, the LTdL’s final stage will also conclude in Kuala Lumpur on October 5, with cyclists expected to arrive in front of KLCC, Jalan Ampang, around 3pm.

Several roads around KLCC – including Jalan Ampang, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Yap Kwan Seng and Jalan P. Ramlee – will be closed temporarily from 2pm until the race ends.

Fadil urged road users to make early travel plans and cooperate with traffic personnel to ensure safety and smooth flow throughout the weekend.

“For further information, the public can contact the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the Kuala Lumpur JSPT Operations Room at 03-2026 0267 / 0269,” he said. — October 2, 2025
