THE Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) received on Friday P117.5 million in subsidies from the city government of Manila.
During a surprise visit, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said the release covers two previously unpaid subsidy periods incurred under the previous administration.
However, city finance records show that PLM still has a total of P223.75 million in unpaid subsidies carried over from earlier periods.
“Before I became mayor, the annual subsidy of PLM was around P250 million. In my first term, we increased it to P360 million. But they reduced it to P210 million, which was not even released. Now, we are increasing the subsidy for PLM once again,” Moreno said in Filipino.
Moreno added that the city government is prioritizing the payment of overdue subsidies and working to ensure stable, sufficient funding for the city-run university, which has faced financial strain due to delayed and incomplete payments.
He also said the city’s finance team has been tasked with exploring long-term measures to strengthen PLM’s finances.
