PM Anwar Ibrahim congratulates the men’s sepak takraw squad for ending a 36-year wait to reclaim Asiad team regu gold, calling it a proud moment.
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated the national men’s sepak takraw squad on winning the team regu gold medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games today.
He described their success in ending the country’s 36-year wait to reclaim the gold medal, which was also Malaysia’s fourth gold at Asiad 2026, as a highly meaningful victory and a source of pride for all Malaysians.
“Syabas (Well done) Malaysia. Continue to bring glory to Malaysia,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Earlier, the national sepak takraw squad clinched the men’s team regu gold medal after defeating Thailand 2-0 in the final at the Paloma Mizuho Arena.
Malaysia last won gold in the event when they defeated the same opponents at the 1990 edition in Beijing.
