SANDAKAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim assured that the replacement of identification documents for fire victims in Kampung Bahagia, Batu Sapi, will be carried out transparently and carefully.
He said victims commonly lose important documents such as passports, identity cards, birth certificates and marriage certificates in such incidents.
He added that the National Registration Department will be deployed to the affected area, particularly around Kampung Bahagia, to assist with the re-registration process.
Anwar said he had discussed the matter with the Home Minister and that a department office will be stationed on site to facilitate document replacement, speaking to reporters at the temporary evacuation centre at Dewan PPR Batu Sapi on Wednesday.
He stressed that all replacements will be properly recorded to address public speculation, adding that priority will be given to restoring key documents including birth certificates, MyKad, death records and marriage certificates, with all related costs fully borne by the Government.
