Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim visits Kampung Bahagia in Sandakan after a fire destroyed 1,000 homes, offering support to victims

SANDAKAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today visited the site of a major fire in Kampung Bahagia here, which destroyed about 1,000 homes last Sunday.

He arrived at the disaster location near Masjid Kampung Bahagia at 4.20 pm, accompanied by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.

The Prime Minister spent time surveying the remnants of destruction at the water village, and also met and checked on victims who lost their homes in the incident.

Anwar later continued his visit to the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at the Dewan Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Taman Batu Sapi to observe the condition of the victims before concluding his working visit.

In the incident on Sunday, thousands of residents in the water village were affected as the fire spread rapidly, destroying homes across an area of more than four hectares.
