KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) can contest the Melaka state election using its own logo after the Court of Appeal today postponed the case management of an appeal by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) and the Home Minister to November 3.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, PN said the decision was made at 4.46pm today (October 30), as the appellants had yet to complete filing their appeal documents.
“The Court of Appeal once again postponed the case management of the appeal by the RoS and the Home Minister to November 3, as the appellants had yet to complete the filing of their appeal documents,” PN said.
The postponement means the High Court’s stay order remains in force, allowing the coalition to use its own logo for tomorrow’s nomination day.
“As such, PN can clearly contest under its own logo on nomination day for the Melaka state election tomorrow, Saturday, October 31,” it added.
The legal dispute began on September 22, when RoS issued a notice under Subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966, suspending all PN activities with effect from September 23.
In response, PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and leaders from several component parties, including Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan), Malaysian Indian People Party (MIPP), Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) and Parti Pejuang Tanahair (Pejuang), filed an application for judicial review on October 5.
They sought a certiorari order to quash the suspension notice and the proposed deregistration of the coalition.
The High Court initially dismissed PN’s application for an interim stay on October 13 but reversed course on October 22, granting the coalition a stay that temporarily halted enforcement of the suspension notice pending a full hearing of its judicial review.
The ruling allowed PN to continue its activities and contest the Melaka polls under its own name and logo while the legal challenge remained ongoing.
However, RoS proceeded to formally deregister PN on October 20 under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966, claiming the coalition’s explanation had failed to address the grounds raised in its earlier notice.
On October 23, RoS director-general Datuk Mohd Zulfikar Ahmad and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, through Federal Counsel, filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal against the High Court’s decision to grant the stay. - October 30, 2026
