PUTRAJAYA – Perikatan Nasional (PN) does not rule out the possibility that action against the coalition is linked to a mala fide agenda and political pressure from parties within and outside PN.
PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition takes note of the Registrar of Societies' (RoS) decision, but does not agree with the basis of that decision.
He said PN is taking immediate steps through available legal processes to defend the objectives of its formation and the struggle agenda supported by its members and supporters.
"PN does not rule out the possibility that action against PN is the result of a mala fide agenda and political pressure victimising PN from parties within and outside PN," he said in a statement on Thursday.
Takiyuddin said this after PN received a notice and an order from RoS concerning the coalition's registration status.
He said PN received a notice under Subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966 for the purpose of RoS cancelling PN's registration, following a show-cause period given to the coalition within thirty days.
He said the proposed cancellation relates to a complaint from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) against PN over a meeting dated 16 July 2026.
Following that notice, PN also received an order under Subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966 ordering the suspension of all its activities until a date to be determined.
"PN takes note of the above RoS decision, but does not agree with the basis of that decision and is taking immediate steps through available legal processes to defend the objectives of its formation and the struggle agenda supported by its members and supporters," he said.
Takiyuddin said both the notice and the order were served on Sept 22 and 23 respectively.
He also noted that receipt of both documents coincided with the announcement and enforcement of the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly to hold the Melaka state election in the near future.
Bersatu was previously reported to have lodged an official complaint with RoS over the party's allegation that it was not involved in the PN Supreme Council meeting on 16 July, besides the issue of its membership status within the coalition.
Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had earlier also asked RoS to make an immediate decision on the complaint.
Bersatu also alleged that several matters had taken place within PN that contravened the coalition's own organisational rules.
Meanwhile, Takiyuddin urged PN members and supporters to remain calm as the matter is being properly handled.
He said PN will provide relevant information and documents to the public transparently and will update on developments from time to time.
At the same time, PN issued a gag order with immediate effect against any party from issuing any statement on behalf of the coalition, except the PN chairman and secretary-general.
