SHAH ALAM - Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin did not hold back when commenting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's losing three state seats under the Permatang Pauh parliament.

“It’s a great slap to Anwar,” he said this during the coalition's celebratory gathering at a hotel in Shah Alam.

He was referring to PN's victory in Seberang Jaya, Permatang Pasir and Penanti on Saturday.

“In Penang, the wave of Malay supporters have brought a big success by winning 11 seats of the 15 Malay majority seats. This shows that PN has become a party that the Malay have turned to.

"Umno is no longer relevant. PH has only won 158 seats only, this means Umno has lost terribly,” he claims.

Muhyiddin said PN has also won mixed seats such as Kulim and small-Malay majority seats in Derga, which shows that PN has also garnered non-Malay support.

“This is shows there is a big encouragement of Malay and non-Malays that denies Anwar’s governmentn. This is a referendum of Malay of the Unity government (rejection),” he added.

Muhyiddin went on to say that Anwar and his deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should step down immediately following their coalition's performance today.

Asked on whether Selangor PN chairman Datuk Seri Azmin Ali will become the Opposition leader, Muhyiddin said “wait first”.
