PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional (PN) will function as check and balance on Anwar Ibrahim’s administration, says its chairman Muhyiddin Yassin, hinting that PN will remain in the opposition instead of joining the unity government.
In a statement, Muhyiddin congratulated Anwar on his appointment as the prime minister.
“Moving forward, PN will continue its struggle for the people’s welfare and the nation’s prosperity based on our core principles – caring, clean and stable,” the Bersatu president said.
Yesterday, Anwar confirmed that his unity government comprised Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Parti Sarawak, with support from MPs from Muda, Warisan and Parti Bangsa Malaysia.
He did not rule out the possibility that other parties may also join the government, saying he welcomed Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and PN to be a part of it.
Earlier today, PAS thanked the prime minister for the invitation and said the matter will be discussed among the PN component parties.
Anwar has also since confirmed that GRS will join the government.
