PNP still verifying reports of Zaldy Co arrest in Prague

MANILA, Philippines —The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday night said it taking note of the reported arrest of fugitive former lawmaker Zaldy Co in Prague, but said it is still verifying the veracity of the news “through official channels.”

“The Philippine National Police (PNP) takes note of the reported arrest of former lawmaker Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co, who is said to be currently detained in Prague under the custody of Czech authorities,” PNP chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.

“The PNP is actively verifying this development through official channels and coordination with concerned agencies and international law enforcement partners,” he added.

Once confirmed, the PNP said it “stands ready to support all necessary legal processes, including coordination for his possible return to the Philippines.”

This was following the social media announcement made by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. himself that Co is currently “detained in Prague after crossing into the Czech Republic without proper documentation and is currently in the custody of Czech authorities.”

Marcos assured that the government is in “close coordination with the Czech government to ensure that all legal processes are followed and to arrange for his return to the Philippines at the soonest possible time.”
