MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said troops will be deployed to ensure safety within the Senate premises during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte which will begin on July 6.
“We will be deploying appropriate number of personnel to ensure the peaceful conduct of the impeachment trial,” Col. Allen Rae Co, PNP spokesman, said in a briefing at Camp Crame on Monday.
“We’ve also closely coordinated with the Senate and other concerned agencies to ensure na wala po magiging aberya (there will be no problem),” Co added.
The Senate heightened security early this month because of the reported threat to the chamber following a series of controversial events such as the sudden appearance of Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa on May 11 and the shooting on May 13 inside the Senate premises.
