POLICE are appealing to members of the public for information following a fatal crash in which two people were burnt to death after their car caught fire in Kepala Batas on Saturday evening.
According to Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Anuar Abdul Rahman, the victims – believed to be the driver and passenger – were travelling along Jalan Permatang Baru Sungai Lokan in a Proton Saga when the vehicle lost control and veered off the road.
“The car is believed to have struck a mound of soil on the left-hand side before catching fire,” said Anuar in a statement issued last night. “Both victims were found burnt beyond recognition and were pronounced dead at the scene.”
The bodies have been sent to the Forensic Unit at Kepala Batas Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Police have opened an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Anuar urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact the SPU district police headquarters at 04-5757946 or report to the nearest police station. - October 5, 2025
