Acting Penampang district police chief Assistant Superintendent Arisanti Aziz said the arrest was linked to an investigation into the death of a man on April 11, 2009.

She said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which deals with murder.

Upon conviction, the offence carries the death penalty or imprisonment for between 30 and 40 years. If the death penalty is not imposed, the offender is also liable to receive at least 12 strokes of the cane, in accordance with the law.

Arisanti said the arrest reflected the police’s continued commitment to tackling crime and ensuring that suspects linked to serious offences were traced and brought before the courts.
