SEPANG – Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain pleaded not guilty at the magistrate’s court here on Wednesday to two charges of voluntarily causing hurt to two police personnel, last month.
Shuhaily, dressed in a dark blue suit, entered the plea after the charges were read out to him before Magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani.
“I plead not guilty and claim trial,” he said.
According to the charges, he allegedly voluntarily caused hurt to two police personnel at a counter in Terminal 1 of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) between 1.17pm and 1.30pm on Sept 28.
The charges were brought under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison, a fine of RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutors Shahrizat Ismail, Ahmad Sazali Omar, Nor Azizah Aling and Nur Aqiilah Ahmad Rofaie handled the prosecution.
Shuhaily was represented by a team of lawyers comprising Datuk Rosal Azimin Ahmad, Datuk Yaacob Md Sam, Datuk Dr Baljit Singh Sidhu, Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Zainal, Md Yunos Shariff, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali and Kitson Foong.
On Sept 28, a video went viral showing a man resembling Shuhaily reprimanding an individual at KLIA.
Following the incident, Shuhaily said on Oct 1 that he was prepared to accept any decision or action taken against him.
During a press conference, he said he did not want KLIA to become like Selayang and wanted the airport to be free from activities involving foreign nationals acting as illegal transport touts.
