PASAY City police arrested a Taiwanese man Thursday for allegedly masterminding the murder of a Chinese whose dismembered remains were found inside a drum.

Police records show that on the night of Feb. 15, residents of Barangay 275 in Binondo reported a suspicious blue drum abandoned along Mel Lopez Boulevard.

Responding officers said the drum contained human remains, later identified as a Chinese man named “Xiangyang.” He was identified through his S&R Membership Shopping card.

A review of CCTV footage and vehicle tracking data led investigators to a 64-year-old man, alias Victor, who was seen in the videos transporting the drum to the site. He was arrested Tuesday.

The investigation into the accomplice’s movements and cooperation from the principal suspect’s live-in partner eventually led police to a luxury hotel in Parañaque.

At around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, police operatives moved into the Okada Manila hotel and casino to capture the 32-year-old Taiwanese alleged mastermind, identified by the alias “Davao.” The Southern Police District told The Manila Times that while the principal suspects are in custody, the motive behind the killing remains under investigation.

Both men are currently detained by the Pasay City police awaiting inquest proceedings before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office.
