TAWAU: Police arrested two foreign men aged 23 and 31 and seized a quantity of drugs in two separate operations here on Thursday.

Tawau Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said 52.06gm of syabu worth RM5,000 and wrapped in a plastic was confiscated from the 23-year-old suspect in Kg Titingan.

“The suspect was arrested by a Tawau Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJN) team at 4.50pm in a house raid.

“The suspect handed over the drug package himself after realising the presence of police,” he said in a statement, Friday.

Read more According to him, the result of the initial urine screening test found the suspect negative for any type of drugs and he has no past criminal record.

Jasmin said the case was investigated in accordance with Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the police are actively tracking the drug trafficking network as well as other individuals involved.

The other suspect was arrested by a team from the Bombalai police station following a scuffle with police in an open area in Bombalai during his attempted escape.

“Police found three transparent plastic packets containing chunks of clear crystals suspected to be syabu weighing 8.25gm after inspecting a small bag in the suspect’s trouser pocket,” he said.

According to him, the result of a urine test on the man found the suspect positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

The case, he said, was being investigated in accordance with Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
