KOTA KINABALU: The government will deploy police personnel at petrol stations in high-risk and border areas to curb fuel leakages and smuggling, following a Cabinet decision on April 8.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the move expands existing enforcement efforts amid rising risks linked to the global energy crisis, which has also raised concerns over supply chains and essential goods.
Since March 20, a total of 87 petrol stations have been monitored, with 70 more to be included in the next phase involving police as authorities strengthen nationwide oversight.
He said this at a press conference held in conjunction with the Ihsan Food Bank (I-FB) initiative at Dapur Kita-Kita, Jetsin, on Saturday.
