THE government has agreed to station policemen at petrol stations near borders and high-risk areas to combat fuel leakage and smuggling following the global energy crisis.
The move was decided at the Cabinet meeting on April 8, as an extension to the static deployment of enforcement officers (KPDN) that has been implemented since March 20.
Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, said it was to strengthen monitoring and enforcement in high-risk locations.
“In the last Cabinet meeting on April 8, it was agreed to station policemen at petrol stations,” he told the media today.
He said that so far, KPDN enforcement officers have been deployed at 87 petrol stations in the first phase, starting from March 20 to April 10, while the second phase, starting next week, will involve an additional 70 stations with the participation of policemen.
This is focused on petrol stations near the national border, as well as those that show an unusual increase in sales based on daily reports.
Armizan also informed that they also plan to involve Rela personnel in the initiative.
“I have discussed with the Home Minister to consider the need for the involvement of Rela volunteers in the static monitoring process at these petrol stations,” he said. – April 11, 2026
