
The city police busted an eight-member gang allegedly involved in drug trafficking by arresting two of its members during an operation conducted on Thursday evening.
Sub-Inspector Jaspal Singh of the city police had received information that members of the gang were holding a meeting at a closed petrol pump on the old bypass here and discussing drug trafficking activities.
Acting on the tip-off, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Jaspal Singh raided the spot and arrested two gang members. The accused were identified as Sukhdev Singh, alias Kala, a resident of Kumbharkan Chowk, Muradpur, Tarn Taran, and Sukhwinder Singh, alias Happy, a resident of Mohalla Jandpir, Muradpur, Tarn Taran.
The remaining accused managed to flee the spot. Those absconding have been identified as Ranjot Singh of Aladinpur village; Sandeep Singh of Guru Ka Khuh on Bugga Road, Tarn Taran; Bikramjit Singh of Jandoke Sarhali village; Shamsher Singh of Qazikot village; Harjinder Singh of Piddi village; and Surjit Singh of Noordi village.
Sub-Inspector Jaspal Singh, who led the raiding team, said a case had been registered against the accused under Section 111(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and efforts were underway to apprehend the absconding suspects.
