KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Padang Serai candidate Datuk Azman Nasrudin has been hauled up by police for labelling the unity government between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) as a “kerajaan zina” (adulterous government).
The Kedah state executive councillor has given his statement to police over his remark, reported the New Straits Times.
It added that Azman “categorically denied” he had insulted the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in his statements criticising the unity government, which was allegedly uttered during a campaign event on November 27.
Earlier today, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil had called for Azman to be investigated by authorities for his “rude and disrespectful” statements towards the royal institution.
The Lembah Pantai MP took to TikTok to challenge Azman to return the “datuk” title conferred on him by Sultan of Kedah Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah if the latter insists on questioning the Agong’s discretion.
This is because the Kedah sultan was also a part of the Conference of Rulers which had met on November 24 to discuss the appointment of a prime minister.
The meeting between the royals came after nearly a week of political impasse in the nation following the 15th general election, which saw no single coalition securing the parliamentary majority needed to form the government.
It was later announced on the same day that Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was to be sworn in as the nation’s 10th prime minister, with his coalition securing the most parliamentary constituencies at 82 seats. – The Vibes, November 29, 2022
