Police identify positive leads in assault case involving Rafizi Ramli’s son

POLICE have uncovered several promising leads in their investigation into the assault of the son of Pandan Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, which took place at a shopping mall in Putrajaya last Wednesday.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed the leads were identified through analysis of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the vicinity.

"There are indications on the CCTV recordings, though not conclusive at this stage," he told Bernama on Saturday.

To date, 14 individuals have been called in to assist with the investigation.

Shazeli also confirmed that police are investigating threatening messages received by Rafizi’s wife, believed to be linked to the same incident. It is the first time she has received such threats, which reportedly came via WhatsApp.

"A police report has been lodged, and investigations are ongoing with the assistance of related agencies, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to trace those responsible," he added.

The assault, which occurred around 2pm at a passenger drop-off point at the mall, involved two helmeted men dressed in black who arrived on a motorcycle. According to Rafizi, one of the suspects dragged his son and jabbed him with an object believed to be a syringe. - August 16, 2025
