
Malaysian police probe a prominent local figure and an international media agency over allegations of plotting to sabotage national stability.
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have launched an investigation into allegations of an attempt to bring down the government and sabotage national stability.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said a report on the matter was lodged yesterday.
Investigations are being carried out by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit, Prosecution/Legal Division of the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman.
The case is being investigated under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which covers activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.
Upon conviction, the offence carries a prison term of up to 20 years.
Mohd Khalid said investigations are ongoing and advised the public not to speculate on the matter.
He urged the public to allow inquiries to be completed in line with the principles of criminal justice in the country.
The allegations involve a prominent local individual and an international media agency.
